Raylene looks much the best

EDMONTON, Alberta - Last weekend, the top 2-year-old colts in Alberta took to the track here at Northlands Park in the Edmonton Juvenile, and Taiaslew easily handled the field as the 2-5 favorite.

The situation appears to be much the same this week when the top 2-year-old fillies compete in Friday's $40,000 Princess Margaret at a distance of six furlongs and Raylene can be expected to be the prohibitive choice.

Raylene won her maiden in her last start here and defeated Judge Ruckus, who finished second to Taiaslew last week.

This time around, Raylene will face an all-filly crowd and it appears the race will be hers for the taking.

The Princess Margaret features plenty of early speed, and that should suit Raylene just fine.

Starting from post 1, Raylene could wire the field with a clean start but probably will be pressed in a race that should produce lightning-fast fractions.

One entrant likely to be in the hunt early is Tychonic Lady, who will be looking to rebound after faltering to finish sixth in her last start when she backed off after getting mud in her face.

"Lots of 2-year-olds just don't have enough experience to figure out how to react to something like getting dirt in their nose and eyes," said Tychonic Lady's trainer, Greg Tracy.

"But now it's behind her and I'm sure she'll handle it better next time out. She would prefer to be out front, but starting from the outside she may not have that opportunity with all the early speed. The jockey will just have to feel it out."
