Rasierra tunes up for Iowa Oaks


Rasierra ($3.80) captured the $50,000 Panthers Stakes on Saturday night to stamp herself as a prime contender for Prairie Meadows's biggest race for 3-year-old fillies, the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks on June 27.

Rasierra, whose last start was in the Kentucky Oaks, broke alertly in the Panthers, moved alongside the pacestting Mrs Petoski with five furlongs to run, and was alone in front when the field turned for home. Shane Laviolette had to go to a left-handed whip at the furlong pole as Calvin Borel began to rally Day of Victory in the strertch run. In winning by 1 1/4 lengths, Rasierra covered the mile in 1:35.49 while picking up her first victory of the year.

oShadowbdancing ($39.80), the longest shot on the board in the $50,000 Prairie Mile, held of the charging Maya's Storm to win by a diminishing neck.

Shadowbdancing tracked the speedy Atta Boy Roy before putting his head in front as the horses turned for home, dug in determinedly and just held off Maya]s Storm to prevail. Joel Campbell rode the winner, who covered the mile in 137.87.
