Rare Fasteroid to defend Chevy title


Rare Fasteroid will defend his title in the Grade 3, $40,000 Classic Chevrolet Stakes, the highlight of four stakes in the Texas Summer Showdown at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas, on Friday night.

In his sole 2003 start, Rare Fasteroid finished off the board in the Miss Polly Stakes at Delta Downs. Last year, he won the Classic Chevrolet Stakes at 10-1 and the B.F. Phillips Handicap at Lone Star Park.

In the Grade 3, $40,000 Barnmaster Sprint Stakes at 250 yards, Turfinator, winner of this race in 2001, meets Tiger Toole, the Delta Downs 250-yard track record holder.

In the Grade 3, $40,000 TQHA 550 Stakes, The Rolls Overture looks for his second stakes win at 550 yards; he won last year's Sundowner Trailer Stakes.

In the Grade 3, $23,850 John Deere Texas Challenge at 870 yards, defending winner Wasting No Cash is the fastest qualifier, with a trial win in 45.170 seconds for the 870 yards.
