Rajeem has Deauville pace edge

Email

The Prix d'Astarte, Sunday's Group 1 mile at Deauville for fillies and mares, has the first three finishers from the French 1000 Guineas as well as the recent winner of Newmarket's Falmouth Stakes, Rajeem.

Rajeem got away with a slow early pace in the Group 1 Falmouth to defeat the classy older females Soviet Song and Peeress. She quickened very well that day and is likely to find the usual early French crawl at Deauville to her advantage.

Although Price Tag lost the French Guineas in the stewards' room after finishing first, she was generally judged the best filly in the field. Tie Black, who was awarded the race, will be making her first start since then, so a greater danger may be the Guineas runner-up and subsequent Group 2 Prix de Sandringham winner, Impressionnante.
