Rain washes out Lincoln

The Lincoln State Fair on Friday morning canceled that night's scheduled card because of unsafe track conditions caused by heavy rain. It was the second straight Lincoln card disrupted because of the track condition, after jockeys voted Thursday not to ride after two races.

The Lincoln track was soaked by rain Wednesday, and Thursday's abbreviated card was on a muddy track. Another storm brought more than an inch of rain Friday morning, prompting a meeting of riders, stewards, and track maintenance officials, who decided to cancel.

The weekend forecast was for dry weather, and Lincoln hoped to salvage racing on Saturday and Sunday, the track's closing weekend. Sunday's card, originally scheduled for nine races, was increased to 12.
