Rahy Royal's nose gives Fackler first win

Apprentice rider Chris Fackler picked up his first win at a recognized track last Saturday evening when Rahy Royal got up by a nose in second race at the Nebraska State Fair at Lincoln.

* Damon Leeds, a regular at Ohio and Indiana tracks in years past, got his first win of the meet on June 21 and then scored a double last Saturday. Chris Fiegen also got his first local win this year on Saturday after returning from riding in South Dakota.

* Sunday's feature, the $20,000 State Fair Futurity, will be a maiden player's delight with all but three of the 15 Nebraska-bred 2-year-olds nominated yet to make their career debut.

* The July 4 holiday feature is the $17,500 State Fair Board Stakes for older horses going a mile and 70 yards. Kelly Von Hemel and Thad Keller have each nominated a pair for the race.
