A half-brother to 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last month, sold for $400,000 to Let’s Go Stable at the Keeneland September yearling sale on Wednesday.

The Awesome Again colt was consigned by Gainesway as agent for breeder Heaven Trees Farm. The latter operation owns the Grade 2-placed stakes-winning Roar mare Lotta Kim, who is the dam of three winners from as many starters, led by Rachel Alexandra, the winner of the 2009 Preakness Stakes, Woodward Stakes, Haskell Invitational, and Mother Goose Stakes.

Trainer Todd Pletcher signed the ticket on the colt for client Let’s Go. Pletcher trained Rachel’s Valentina, a Grade 1-winning daughter of Rachel Alexandra.

“They’re sort of similar, maybe [this colt is] a touch bigger than Rachel’s Valentina,” Pletcher said. “Just good, athletic, and seemed like a good-minded, good-moving horse with a good pedigree.”

Let’s Go emerged with the colt for a relatively low price on the final day of Book 1, when competition at the top was fierce.

“Some of them were breaking out, and we felt like he had a stallion’s pedigree, so we were willing to give that, and we’re happy to get him,” Pletcher said.
