Rachel schools in starting gate

Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year who incurred her second straight defeat when narrowly beaten by Unrivaled Belle in the La Troienne Stakes on the Oaks undercard, has resumed her normal training regimen at Churchill. Rachel Alexandra was schooled in the starting gate Wednesday just prior to the regularly scheduled harrow break before ensuing with a routine gallop under Dominic Terry.

Owner Jess Jackson and trainer Steve Asmussen have not committed Rachel Alexandra to a specific race but say they intend to continue campaigning her. Asmussen said last weekend that he was "disappointed" in the loss, "but I thought she ran fine, although perhaps not as good as we'd hoped."

* Garrett Gomez will ride here through next Thursday, May 13, according to agent Ron Anderson. "We'll ride at Pimlico on the 14th and 15th, then go to Belmont for a few days before Monmouth Park starts" May 22, said Anderson.

* Pretty Prolific, second in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff, could make her next start in the Grade 3, $100,000 Winning Colors Stakes here May 31, said trainer Jimmy Baker.
