LEXINGTON, Ky. – Rachel Alexandra and her 10-day-old Curlin colt have returned to Stonestreet Farms near Lexington, according to a post on the farm’s Facebook page.

On Monday, Stonestreet posted a photograph of the mare and foal in a stall, captioned, “Home Sweet Home!”

The 6-year-old mare and her foal had been at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington since Jan. 27 due to what Stonestreet termed “a precautionary measure after her delivery for pain management related to the birth.”

Rood and Riddle veterinarian Dr. Bonnie Barr attended Rachel Alexandra and the foal during their stay at the clinic.

Stonestreet owns both Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, and Curlin, the 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year now standing at Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Their foal, the mare’s first, was born Jan. 22 and weighed 125 pounds.

Rachel Alexandra is the first of two female Horses of the Year expected to produce their first foals this year. The other is 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, who is due in early March. She is carrying a Bernardini foal.
