R.A.C.E. Fund to hold online fundraiser

The Retirement Assistants and Care for Equines (R.A.C.E.) Fund will host an online fundraiser auction from June 21 through June 28 to raise funds for racehorse retirement and rescue.

Featured items include halters worn by Darley stallion Street Cry, best known for siring Zenyatta and Street Sense; Taylor Made stallion Forestry, the sire of Shackleford; and Wood Memorial winner I Want Revenge, standing his first year at Pauls Mill.

Other items for auction include a private tour of Three Chimneys Farm; autographed Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks win pictures autographed by Calvin Borel; and an Alysheba photo autographed by his trainer Jack Van Berg.

Bidding opens and closes at 8 p.m. Eastern on the respective open and close dates.

Proceeds raised will be used to help racehorses in need of retirement or rescue from slaughter. Some proceeds will also benefit Promethia, a 32-year-old Alydar mare rescued in 2011 by the RACE Fund.
