R Clear Victory wires Kings Point

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - R Clear Victory took control soon after the start under Stewart Elliott and waltzed around Aqueduct's main track to a four-length victory in Sunday's $78,300 Kings Point Handicap for New York-breds.

Shuffling Maddnes, who made a huge move around the turn, settled for second by a head over Prince of Peace. Tommasi was fourth while Naughty New Yorker, the 3-5 favorite, failed to fire and finished last.

It was the sixth career victory - first in a stakes race - for R Clear Victory, a gelded son of Victory Gallop owned by Coastal Racing Stable and trained by Steve Asmussen. It was the second of three consecutive victories on the card compiled by Elliott, who enjoyed a perfect afternoon.

R Clear Victory looked like the lone speed on paper and that's how things played out as he carved out relatively easy fractions of 24.97 seconds, 49.33, 1:12.98, and 1:37.17 before completing the 1 1-8 miles in 1:50.25. He returned $9 as the second betting choice.

"Stewart did a good job of getting him to relax,'' said Toby Sheets, assistant to Asmussen. "The horse was off the bridle and he helped us out a lot.''

Naughty New Yorker, carrying top weight of 124 pounds - eight more than R Clear Victory - made a move into contention down the backside but was basically done by the quarter pole.

There were no winning tickets sold on Sunday's pick-six - consolation payouts were to made to those with four of six correct - creating a $44,592 carryover heading into Wednesday's card.
