Quite a Ruckus wins My Dear Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Quite a Ruckus made quite a splash in Sunday's $142,125 My Dear Stakes, winning the five-furlong dash for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine in her first career start.

Quite a Ruckus tracked front-running Something Brewing through an opening quarter of :22.29 seconds, as 1-2 favorite South Bay Cove assumed a stalking position along the rail. Quite a Ruckus hit the front at the eighth pole, and then drew away to a four-length tally, in a final time of :58.12 seconds.

Sweet Solairo rallied wide for second in the six-horse field. Something Brewing finished third, but was disqualified and placed fifth for ducking in and impeding South Bay Cove at the sixteenth pole. Coconut Popsicle was placed third, while South Bay Cove was moved to fourth. Time Saver was scratched.

James McKnight rode Quite a Splash for trainer Mark Casse. "Mark told me that she had a lot of speed," said McKnight. "She's very professional about things, and she's very light on her feet. It seems like she has a big future in front of her."

Quite a Ruckus returned $10.50, and banked $82,575 for owner/breeders Richard and Nancy Kaster.
