Quidnaskra earns stakes victory

Quidnaskra appears to be improving with age.

Quidnaskra, a 6-year-old mare trained by Mary Eppler and owned by Herbert Hogg and William Wise, registered her third straight victory and first stakes triumph by capturing Monday's $75,900 Rosenna Stakes at Delaware Park.

Sent off as the fourth choice in a field of eight fillies and mares, Quidnaskra ($11.20) won by a length and covered 1 1/16 miles of firm turf in 1:44.21.

Verruma, a 5-year-old Brazilian mare making her North American debut and running for the first time in almost two years, nosed out Pretty Dutch for second. Gotablush, the 2-1 favorite trained by Jonathan Sheppard, finished fifth.

Quidnaskra, ridden by Harry Vega, was previously winless in five races against stakes company. In two stakes last season, at Suffolk Downs and The Meadowlands, she was beaten a combined 38 3/4 lengths. In 24 lifetime starts, Quidnaskra has won eight races and $233,644.
