Quest for Honor is headed to the French Derby after scoring a narrow, hard-fought victory over Sagara in the $175,000 Group 2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud on Monday.

A son of Highest Honor trained by Andre Fabre, Quest for Honor rallied under Christophe Soumillon to catch Sagara and third-place finisher Sunshine Kid in the final strides of the 1 1/4-mile event. The winner by a short neck, the 3.40-1 Quest For Honor covered the

distance in 2:09.90 on good to soft ground.

In victory he was paying a compliment to Thursday's Chester Vase winner Soldier of Fortune, behind whom he had finished 5-1/2 lengths fourth in the Group 2 Prix Noailles on April 8.

Passage of Time in Oaks prep at York

York's three-day classic prep meeting opens Wednesday, when Passage of Time has her English Oaks trial in the Group 3 Musidora Stakes, a 1 1/4-mile, 88-yard contest worth $119,000.

A daughter of Dansili trained by Henry Cecil, Passage of Time has been the Oaks favorite since her victory over colts last November in the 1 1/4-mile Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. As a result, she will carry three pounds more than each of her four rivals, the most dangerous of whom may be Shorthand, a Michael Stoute-trained full sister to last year's Musidora winner, Short Skirt.
