ROSE’S VISION Artie Schiller-Essential Rose, by Bernardini (Bred in Ontario by Chiefswood Stable) Rose’s Vision punched his ticket to the Queen’s Plate with a strong performance as a longshot in the Plate Trial, finishing second to favored Telekinesis. The Artie Schiller colt, a third-generation homebred for Chiefswood Stable, is from a family that has consistently found stakes success. Rose’s Vision is the first foal out of unraced Chiefswood homebred Essential Rose. She is out of the Grade 2-winning Storm Cat mare Essential Edge, also a Chiefswood homebred, who finished third in the Bison City Stakes, part of Canada’s 3-year-old filly series. Essential Edge, dam of Grade 3-placed Leading Edge, is from a solid family of broodmares. She is a half-sister to the dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Flameaway, and also to the dam of Grade 3 winner Tiz a Slam, second in last year’s Queen’s Plate. It is the extended family of multiple Group 1 winner and stakes producer Salsabil and of Group 1 winner Marju. Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller now stands in Australia, where he is responsible for champion Flying Artie and Group 1 winner Laser Hawk. His top runners in North America include My Conquestadory and We Miss Artie, both Grade 1-winning juveniles on synthetic, and Bowies Hero, a Grade 1 winner on turf. My Conquestadory and Bowies Hero are both bred on similar crosses to Rose’s Vision, whose broodmare sire is Bernardini, a son of the great A.P. Indy. My Conquestadory’s dam is by A.P. Indy’s son Malibu Moon, while Bowies Hero’s maternal grandsire is Sky Mesa, by A.P. Indy’s son Pulpit. – Nicole Russo
