Queen's Logic captures prep for 1,000 Guineas

Queen's Logic, Europe's top 2-year-old filly last year, won the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free (Fred Darling) Stakes over a straight seven furlongs at Newbury on Saturday. Queen's Logic and jockey Steve Drowne tracked the front-running Lady Dominatrix, took over about 350 yards from home, and scored by 1 3/4 lengths over Roundtree. She was timed in 1:24.74.

Trained by Mick Channon for Jaber Abdullah, Queen's Logic is among the favorites for the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5. This was Queen's Logic's first attempt beyond six furlongs, and as a daughter of Grand Lodge her pedigree suggests she can stay the mile of the Guineas.

o Later at Newbury on Saturday, the Richard Hannon-trained Redback won the Group 3 Lane's End Greenham Stakes under Darryll Holland. Redback ran the seven furlongs in 1:23.84.

Redback won by 2 1/2 lengths over Guys and Dolls in second and Maderno in third. Bragadino, the 5-2 favorite, finished last of 10 after losing a shoe and having it replaced before the start.

* Aramram, 2 1/2 lengths second to Kentucky Derby hope Castle Gandolfo on the dirt at Lingfield 14 days earlier, on Saturday won the listed Stanley Racing Thirsk Classic Trial by a length from Sohaib. A son of Danzig, Aramram will run in the 2,000 Guineas May 4 for trainer Mick Channonand and owner Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum.
