Queenledo sharp off big victory

AUBURN, Wash. - Queenledo is the one to beat when she meets eight other 3-year-old fillies in Sunday's $50,000 Federal Way Handicap at Emerald Downs.

Trained by Tim McCanna, Queenledo took command of her division after scoring a 2 1/4-length victory in the six-furlong U.S. Bank Stakes on opening weekend. It was the third win from six starts for Queenledo, who won last season's Knights Choice and placed in two other stakes at 2. Off those accomplishments, Queenledo was assigned high weight of 121 pounds and will concede from two to nine pounds to her rivals.

Queenledo figures to receive her sternest challenge from Debbie's Assault. Debbie's Assault ran second in the U. S. Bank Stakes after breaking slowly.

Also dangerous are Roanaway Bride and America's Girl, who ran one-two in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance prep April 17. Roanaway Bride won that event with a powerful stretch kick and improved her record to 2 wins from 4 career starts, all at Emerald Downs.

America's Girl showed the way for Roanaway Bride in the allowance prep and again appears to be the speed of her field Sunday. Trained by Jim Penney, America's Girl will be ridden for the first time Sunday by Gallyn Mitchell, who takes over for Brian Theriot.

The 6 1/2-furlong Federal Way will go as the ninth of 10 races.
