Queen Washita dominates EVD Futurity


Queen Washita’s effort in Saturday night’s $257,650 EVD Futurity was as impressive as her trial performance. She was a length winner of the closing night card for Quarter Horses at Evangeline Downs, one start after setting the fastest qualifying time for the race in a 2 1/4 length romp.

The EVD Futurity also marked the retirement of jockey G.R. Carter Jr., who finished fifth aboard The Valiant Prince.

Queen Washita ($7.40) broke smartly in the EVD Futurity and darted clear while covering 400 yards on a fast track in 19.93 seconds. She won her trial for the race in 19.95 on Nov. 27 at Evangeline.

Manuel Gutierrez was aboard Queen Washita for both the trial and finale for trainer Adrian Huitron. The filly races for Jorge Aguilera.

Queen Washita earned $128,825 for her Saturday win over Catching Fire Corona. Queen Washita is a daughter of Inseparable and was bred in Oklahoma by Andrew T. Smith.

The EVD Futurity shared a card with the $145,100 EVD Derby that Exquisite Stride ($6.40) won by a neck over Zoomin Baby.
