Quarter Moon the total class package

There are innumerable stakes producers and prominent runners among the broodmares represented by foals at the Keeneland September yearling sale, including a Horse of the Year and two dams of Horse of the Year honorees in the three-day, select Book 1 portion alone.

But there was just one mare left in Book 1, following early outs, who is both a Grade/Group 1 winner and Grade/Group 1 producer: Quarter Moon, whose yearling colt by popular commercial sire War Front was to sell late in Wednesday’s third and final Book 1 session.

Quarter Moon, a daughter of the great Sadler’s Wells, posted her lone Group 1 victory in the Moyglare Stud Stakes in Ireland; she also was second in the Irish Oaks, Epsom Oaks, and Irish 1000 Guineas. A full sister to Irish 1000 Guineas winner Yesterday, Quarter Moon is the dam of eight winners from nine starters, led by Diamondsandrubies, the winner of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.

The mare has also produced Group 1-placed You’ll Be Mine, Group 3-placed Born to Be King, and stakes-placed How High The Moon.
