Quarter Horse trials at Sam Houston Friday

A Snowy Cartel is the most accomplished of the 109 juveniles set to run in Friday night's trials for the Grade 1, $346,700-estimated Sam Houston Futurity for Quarter Horses. She goes in the 12th race, which is the last of the 11 trials being run on a program that starts at 7 p.m. Central. Each trial race will be 350 yards, which is the distance of the Sam Houston Futurity. The finale is July 2.

A Snowy Cartel won the Grade 1 Manor Downs Futurity by three-quarters of a length on April 18. She is undefeated in three starts, with her latest win coming in a trial for the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park on May 7. A Snowy Cartel will be treated with Lasix for the first time on Friday.

Her rivals include Septacular Bid, a maiden whose dam is named Septacular.

Painted Sable, who was second in the Manor Downs Futurity, runs in the ninth race, while Awe Contraire, winner of the Grade 3 Texas Juvenile Challenge at Sam Houston, goes in the second race.
