Quality Road's stud fee to start at $35K


LEXINGTON, Ky. - Quality Road will launch his stud career at Lane's End with a $35,000 fee, the Kentucky farm announced Friday.

A 4-year-old Elusive Quality colt, Quality Road retired after finishing last of 12 in the Breeders' Cup Classic. He is a seven-time graded winner, including four Grade 1 victories, and earned more than $2.2 million.

Eight current Lane's End sires will have fee changes in 2011, although the farm's most prominent established stallions, A. P. Indy and Smart Strike, will keep their 2010 fees. A. P. Indy will continue to stand for $150,000, and Smart Strike will again command a $75,000 fee. The five sires taking fee cuts this year are After Market, who drops from $12,500 to $7,500; Aragorn, from $7,500 to $5,000; Langfuhr, from $17,500 to $15,000; Pleasantly Perfect, from $10,000 to $7,500; and War Pass, from $20,000 to $15,000.

Three others will have higher fees. They are Candy Ride, who increases from $25,000 to $40,000 in 2011; City Zip, up from $10,000 to $15,000; and Mineshaft, from $20,000 to $25,000.

Lane's End's other stallions retain their 2010 fees next year. they are Belong to Me, $7,500; Curlin, $40,000; English Channel, $25,000; Lemon Drop Kid, $35,000; Rock Hard Ten, $25,000; and Stephen Got Even, $7,500.
