Pyrite Personal in peak form

Trainer Miguel Feliciano is hopeful that Pyrite Personal can duplicate his last effort and defeat 12 other 3-year-old Ohio-breds in the $50,000 Green Carpet, a 1 1/16-mile stakes over the River Downs turf course.

Two weeks ago, in the 7 1/2-furlong prep for the Green Carpet, Pyrite Personal drew off to win by nine lengths in his first try over the grass course under jockey Vernon Bush, who retains the mount. It was Pyrite Personal's first win of the year, although he has yet to miss the board in five starts this season

Three of the five entrants that he defeated in the prep are back for the Green Carpet.

The main threat will come from trainer Kris Nemann, who saddles two contenders. Play the Hero is the winningest horse at the meet so far, having won his last three, including two in a row over the turf.

The regular rider for both Nemann horses, Nathan Solomon, has opted to ride Never Forget, winner of a maiden race locally by more than 13 lengths just a week ago. Never Forget has finished second twice in two tries over the local turf course, and seems to have rounded into form. Ramon Luna will ride Play the Hero.

Others coming off wins include S R King of Queens, ridden by leading rider Rodney Prescott for trainer Doug Cowans, Smarmy, and Smarty O.
