Putmeinyourwill holds on to win Seabiscuit

EmailSAN MATEO, Calif. - Putmeinyourwill ($9) got first run on favored Heroi Do Bafra and held him off by a neck to win the $61,800 Seabiscuit Handicap on Saturday at Bay Meadows.

The favored Heroi Do Bafra was content to sit in midpack early before unleashing a strong but belated run. He couldn't quite catch the winner on the speed favoring track as he followed his rival's path into lane.

Putmeinyourwill saved ground, then moved out for room circling three wide on the second turn of the 1 1/16-mile turf race.

"I knew Courtly Jazz and Saratoga's Magic weren't going to come off the rail, and I didn't want to get stopped," winning jockey Roberto Gonzalez said. "Coming to the far turn, I had a chance to get out, and I took it."

Heroi Do Bafra, a multiple Grade 1 winner in his first start since March 31, followed Putmeinyourwill home, but the winner proved just a little bit better.

Putmeinyourwill earned $36,750 as he won for the sixth time in 18 starts and lifted his career earnings to $158,690.

Heroi Da Bafra held off fast-finishing 3-year-old Mulcahy by a half-length.
