Pulpit colt fastest at Keeneland preview

A Pulpit colt posted the fastest quarter-mile time of 20.60 seconds Thursday at Keeneland's under-tack preview for its April 5 juvenile auction.

The one-day under-tack show, which took place on Keeneland's Polytrack racing strip, also produced six eighth-mile works in 10 seconds flat.

The fastest quarter-mile time was by Hip No. 165, Pulpit's chestnut son of Checkerspot, by Affirmed. Eddie Woods, agent, consigned the colt, a May 18 foal and half-brother to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Salty Romance.

The fastest eighth-mile workers included Hip No. 9, a Speightstown-Evangelizer filly offered by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables agency; Hip No. 84, a Forest Wildcat-Orate filly consigned by Hartey/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, agent; Hip No. 117, a Johannesburg-Spain filly from the Eddie Woods agency; Hip No. 120, a Bernstein-Spies in My Midst colt from the McKathan Bros. consignment; Hip No. 123, an Indian Charlie-The Church Lady colt, also from Wavertree's agency; and Hip No. 152, a Fist Samurai-Beebe Lake filly consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent.

Hip No. 73, a bay Bernardini colt out of Moonlight Sonata, was the only juvenile to work three-eighths. He covered the distance in 33.80 seconds. Agent William Helmbrecht offers the colt.

One horse, Hip No. 145, galloped. An Officer filly, she is scheduled to make her first start at Keeneland on Saturday before selling on April 5 at the auction. A dark bay or brown filly, she is out of the Gone West mare Alligator Allie and is consigned by the Hayden Thoroughbreds agency. She is named Goodeveningofficer.

The single-session auction will take place at Keeneland's sale pavilion on April 5, starting at 5 p.m.
