ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Kentucky shipper Proud Heiress nosed out the 4-5 favorite, Tribal Belle, to take the at Woodbine Sunday.

Proud Heiress broke a bit slowly under Chantal Sutherland, who then took her quite wide on the backstretch in a trailing position in the six-furlong sprint. Dancing Allstar, last year's Whimsical winner, set quick fractions while being tracked by Silver Z, who hit the front in mid-stretch as Proud Heiress was in the midst of a wide rally.

Tribal Belle closed between horses in the final furlong, but her bid fell just short, as Proud Heiress prevailed in a time of 1:09.71. Silver Z finished another half-length back in third in the seven-horse field of fillies and mares.

Wayne Mogge trains Proud Heiress for the Respit Farm.

"I think she's getting better with age," said Mogge. "The race set up perfect for her. Chantal gave her a great ride."

Proud Heiress ($9.60) earned $90,000 in the 59th running of the Grade 3 event.
