Proceed coasts home in Albert Dominguez Memorial

Heavily favored Proceed opened up a six-length lead with a furlong remaining and coasted home to win his third stakes of the season in Sunday’s $85,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap at Sunland Park.

One of three uncoupled horses in the seven-horse field for trainer Joel Marr, the 3-year-old Proceed ($3.40) finished 1 3/4 lengths in front of 17-1 outsider Thunder Agard after completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.50 under jockey Alfredo Juarez Jr.. It was another 6 3/4 lengths back to That’s Who in third.

Proceed is now 5 for 6 lifetime, with his lone defeat coming last time out in the Zia Park Derby.

** In the Grade 1, $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park for Quarter Horses, Rcj Major Storm ($24), overlooked at 11-1 despite winning back-to-back Grade 1 stakes in his two most recent starts, scored by a neck under Jesse Levario, completing 400 yards in 19.14 seconds. Relentless was second, a nose in front of Stimulus. Jrc Callus First was fourth as the 8-5 favorite.
