Private Terms, 21, pensioned

Private Terms, sire of Grade 1 winners Afternoon Deelites and Soul of the Matter, has been pensioned at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky.

The 21-year-old Private Terms stood at Northview Stallion Station in Maryland before joining Claiborne's roster in 1996.

Stuart Janney Jr. and his wife, Barbara Phipps Janney, bred Private Terms in Kentucky. His dam, the winning Bold Ruler mare Laughter, was a half-sister to the Janney family's champion Ruffian. She also produced the stakes winners Blue Ensign, Light Spirits, Steel Maiden, and Dover Ridge, all half-siblings to Private Terms.

Private Terms won the 1988 Wood Memorial and eight other stakes races, including the Grade 2 Massachusetts Handicap and Grade 2 Gotham Stakes and the Grade 3 Federico Tesio. He won 12 of 17 starts and $1,243,947.

Private Terms's best runners were Soul of the Matter and Afternoon Deelites, both Grade 1-winning millionaires. He also is the sire of Grade 3 winners Connecting Terms, Rochelle's Terms, and Private Buck Trout.
