Private Lap at Delaware? Watch out

Email

Private Lap has done his best work at Delaware Park and gets another opportunity to win a stakes there Saturday in the $55,000 Gate Dancer.

Eleven older males entered the 1 1/8-mile Gate Dancer. Private Lap is part of the Steve Klesaris-trained entry with Judge's Case, who is 0 for 9 this year but has been ambitiously placed in a couple of those starts.

Private Lap won the R.R.M. Carpenter Jr. Memorial at Delaware Park on July 19. Before that race, Private Lap was second to Bowman's Band in the slop in Delaware's Brandywine Handicap. Overall at Delaware, Private Lap has a record of 4-1-0 in five starts.

Private Lap, who drew post 4, figures to be on or near the early lead. Tony Black is named on Private Lap and Run to Victory.

Changeintheweather, who has finished second in three consecutive starts in graded company, looks like Private Lap's biggest threat. The Gone West colt, who is trained by Graham Motion, gets three pounds from Private Lap, the 123-pound highweight under the allowance conditions of the race.

In his last start, Changeinthe-weather finished second in the Grade 3 Dominion Day Handicap at Woodbine on July 1.

Country Be Gold, who is on the brink of $500,000 in career earnings, has been placed in some tough spots during his career but fits nicely with this group. Following a seven-month layoff, the 6-year-old Country Be Gold returned to the races last month in an allowance at Delaware and won by nearly five lengths.
