Princess Composer in tough seeking 12th win of year

EmailGolden Hare laid down the gauntlet with his North American-leading 12th win of the year last week in a starter allowance at Retama Park. His closest pursuer for winningest Thoroughbred of the year honors, the Indiana-bred mare Princess Composer, will have her chance to equal that mark at Hoosier Park in the $45,000 Frances Slocum Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.

The path to victory figures to be a little tougher for Princess Composer, who, like Golden Hare, is generally of starter allowance quality. Against her fellow statebreds, however, Princess Composer can hold her own against the best, though several others in the Frances Slocum field are likely to attract more wagering support.

The probable favorite, the 3-year-old Basin Banannie, beat her elders twice this meet in the Richmond and Merrillville stakes, but the front-running filly was allowed an easy lead through slow fractions in the 1 1/16-mile Richmond and may not get as easy a trip this time.

Amature's Prize is a dual stakes winner at Hoosier and is taking a major drop in class after a sixth-place finish in the Grade 3 Indiana Oaks. Leading rider Orlando Mojica will be aboard Amature's Prize for the first time.

Linda's Lass and Easy Tee, second and fourth behind Basin Banannie in the six-furlong Merrillville, figure to be more effective stretching back out to two turns. Easy Tee, the 2006 Frances Slocum winner, will be making her first route appearance on dirt in nearly a year.
