Princess Composer can handle route

Princess Composer will try to make it two in a row against Indiana-bred fillies and mares when she takes on 11 others in the $100,000 Frances Slocum at Hoosier Park on Saturday.

In her last out, Oct. 24, Princess Composer won the Merrillville by a neck. In that six-furlong race, Jockey Jose Camejo had Princess Composer well off the pace early. Princess Composer rallied into the stretch and dueled fiercely with Easy Tee to narrowly prevail over a sloppy track.

The Frances Slocum is at 1 1/16 miles, but the added distance should not be a problem for the ultra-consistent Princess Composer, a 6-year-old mare who has won 4 of 6 at the distance, and 18 of 28 overall.

Ryan Nemann now trains Princess Composer and has won 2 of 3 starts with her, including the Merrillville. Rebecca McGee trained her earlier in the year and won 5 of 7 races, including the 1 1/16-mile Fairway Fun at Turfway Park on March 29. Camejo retains the mount.

Easy Tee comes into the Slocum off a tough loss to Princess Composer in the Merrillville. She has twice defeated Princess Composer in Indiana-bred stakes in the last year, winning the Slocum last year by a head and the Florence Henderson at Indiana Downs by three-quarters of a length. Both races were 1 1/16 miles, a distance at which Easy Tee has won 4 of 6 starts. Orlando Mojica will ride for trainer Mike Reavis.
