DRF Plus Graded Stakes Analysis: Pegasus Stakes

UNCLE SIGH was ambitiously spotted in the Kentucky Derby, and ran like it, fading to 14th after leading midway in the race; back in much more favorable spot in the Pegasus; this is a horse who was competitive with Samraat in some major Derby preps in New York over the winter, and the 1 1/16-mile distance of this race suits him better than the mile and a quarter of the Derby. RING WEEKEND is reunited with jockey Daniel Centeno, who was aboard for his blowout win in the Tampa Bay Derby over the winter; this is a horse that runs best when racing freely on or very close to the pace, and he didn’t get that trip in the Preakness after having early trouble. ALBANO was freshened after failing to keep up in the Louisiana Derby after a near-miss in the 14-horse Risen Star behind the late Intense Holiday; Larry Jones-trained horses tend to improve as they age as 3-year-olds, though this one must overcome a short layoff.
