New York, NY (October 7, 2013) Today, Daily Racing Form unveiled its newly redesigned print edition of Daily Racing Form that combines upgraded and more readable past performances for DRF’s current players with a fresh and visually appealing new package geared to a new generation of players.

Bound in higher quality and whiter paper that enhances past performance readership, the New DRF features expanded editorial coverage, additional handicapping analysis and more color photography that brings Thoroughbred racing and breeding stories to life in a much bigger way. The newspaper will continue to deliver all the robust exclusive features horseplayers depend upon in a sleek new fan and advertiser-friendly package.

“For 119 years, Daily Racing Form’s mission is to serve the horseplayer and the industry.  Continual innovation of our products and services that appeal to a far-reaching audience is central to our mission, and the exciting redesigned DRF exemplifies our dedication to growing the sport.  Both existing and new readers will find DRF’s story-telling and handicapping content more engaging,” said John Hartig, CEO, Daily Racing Form.

“There is no more powerful way to communicate the excitement of Thoroughbred racing than by presenting DRF’s world-class stories, analysis, features and photography is a contemporary new package.” Hartig continued, “DRF is thrilled to introduce this more reader friendly newspaper which has been enthusiastically embraced by horseplayers and racing executives that have viewed prototypes over the past several months.”

Daily Racing Form’s first edition was published on Nov 17, 1894, as a broadsheet newspaper. In 1992, Daily Racing Form began publishing all of its editions nationally as tabloids. For the third generation, Daily Racing Form enhances player utility and engagement, but also reaches out to new fans by re-imagining The New DRF in a saddle-stitched magazine-sized format.

“In an era when many newspapers across the country are reducing editorial space, features, and content, we will be adding editorial features and pages for the benefit of our readers,” said Mark Simon, editorial director of Daily Racing Form. “The new features will include handicapping information as well as news, profiles, and photos. The new design will enable us to present the stories in racing in a more contemporary format.”

Daily Racing Form remains highly committed to the printed newspaper,” said Jim Kostas, President, DRF Print. “These are exciting times for Thoroughbred racing and Daily Racing Form. In an environment where many other publishers are scaling back, DRF is investing in its print franchise.”

“We are an innovative company, being led in an exciting direction and we are thrilled to bring this refreshed product to our loyal readers,” he continued. “DRF continues its high standards of bringing the best handicapping products to horseplayers across North America each racing day.”

One formatting change readers will notice is that Closer Looks, DRF’s wildly popular text-based analysis, which previously appeared in the outside margin, now appear under the workout line within each individual horse’s past performances. Redundant information in the company line has been removed for enhanced readability. All other past performance elements remain unchanged.
