Press Camp wins Tiburon Stakes

ALBANY, Calif. - Press Camp ($5) took command down the backstretch and scored a wire-to-wire victory in the $49,350 at Golden Gate Fields on Thursday.

The 3-year-old filly, coming off a sensational effort in which she recorded a 104 Beyer, defeated three stakes winners in the field of six, handing highly regarded Victorina her first defeat in three starts while winning the six-furlong race in 1:09.58. It was her initial stakes victory.

"The outside draw was a favorable draw," said trainer Billy Morey, whose filly drew the No. 6 post. "Plan A was to stalk. Plan B was to go if nobody went. Instead of playing cat-and-mouse down the backstretch and getting caught wide, (jockey Roberto Gonzalez) made the decision to go. He may have asked a bit of her early, but she held up well enough to hold off one of the most talented fillies up here."

Press Camp beat Victorina by one-half length with stakes winner Devons Smokin third. Press Camp earned $29,250, increasing her lifetime earnings to $60,430 with three wins in six starts.
