Presque Isle: Speedacious wins Satin and Lace with stalking trip

Email

Speedacious raced just off the early pace in the $100,000 Satin and Lace before rallying in the stretch to win by a length and a quarter Tuesday evening at Presque Isle Downs.

Jockey Miguel Mena kept the 4-year-old filly to the outside of the dueling leaders, It's Me Mom and Wildcat Marie, to upper stretch. At that point Wildcat Marie took over while favored It's Me Mom faded. Speedacious responded when asked by Mena and drew clear to win under a mild drive.
Wild About Marie made up ground late to finish second, three-quarters of a length in front of Wildcat Marie, who faded to third.

The running time for the 5 1/2 furlongs over the Presque Isle Tapeta surface was 1.04.30 and Speedacious returned $8.40 to win as the third choice in the eight-horse field of fillies and mares. Speedacious is trained by Bret Calhoun.
