Presque Isle: Plus One returns on short rest

Plus One ran only 12 days ago, but trainer Tim Hamm said he just couldn’t pass up Tuesday evening’s entry-level allowance for 3-year-old fillies at Presque Isle Downs.

“She faced older, multiple winners in her last and ran a big race,” Hamm said. “It was just a great effort and shae came back and is doing really good, so we had to run her in this spot.”

Plus One set blazing fractions of of 21.60 and 44.60 secondsin that five-furlong allowance here on May 17 but was caught in deep stretch and beaten a neck.

“She ran huge in that race, setting those fast times and then just got caught on the wire,” Hamm said.

In her previous race this year, an entry-level allowance onApril 19 at Keeneland, the daughter of Bluegrass Cat finished last in a field of nine. According to Hamm, that race can be overlooked.

“She was kind of leaning back at the start and when the gate opened, she broke in the air and pretty much lost all chance,” he said. “She was rushed to try to keep up early, I think that race is a throw out.”

There is an abundance of early speed in Tuesday’s six-furlong race, but that is not a concern for Hamm. “There aren’t any as fast as she is,” he said. “There was more speed in her last. She is very fast and can dictate where she wants to be.”

There are no immediate plans for Plus One after Tuesday’s race.

“We will take it as it comes, we need to get some of her conditions knocked out,” Hamm said, “I don’t have anything planned for her other than winning this race.”

Pablo Morales will ride

Brilliant Autumn will be going for her second in a row after winning a maiden-claiming event at Keeneland on April 21 for trainer Greg Burchell. The daughter of Yes It’s True had a bullet work at Keeneland Tuesday and appears to be at the top of her game.

* In the third race on the eight-race card, a one-mile allowance, Photo Shoot should be running late. The 5-year-old just missed in his last out April 19 at Keeneland, losing by a neck in a 1 1/8-mile allowance. Trained by Joe Cheeks, Photo Shoot will be ridden once again by Willie Martinez.

Fabledzapper may be on the lead in the eight-horse field for trainer Gerald Bennett. The 4-year-old son of Ghostzapper finished second in his last out on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs after leading until late stretch. Pablo Morales will ride.
