Presque Isle: Gypsy Robin wins Inaugural, Sum of the Parts takes Tom Ridge

Gypsy Robin led every step of the way to win the $100,000 Inaugural at Presque Isle Downs on opening day Tuesday evening.

Trained by Wesley Ward, Gypsy Robin had a two-length lead at the first call of the six-furlong event. Jockey Julio Garcia shook the reins at the 3-year-old filly in the stretch and she drew off to win by four lengths in ridden-out fashion. The even-money favorite Brilliant Katie was second, a half-length in front of longshot Mali in third.

Gypsy Robin returned $4.40 to win and ran the six furlongs in 1.09.88 over the Presque Isle Tapeta surface.

Sum of the Parts won the $100,000 Tom Ridge on Tuesday, leading all of the way under jockey Julien Leparoux. The 3-year-old colt responded when asked in late stretch and held on to win by a neck over late-charging Johannesbourbor. Hogy rallied and dueled with the winner on the turn but could not get by and settled for third, three-quarters of a length behind the second-place finisher.

Sum of the Parts returned $5 to win and ran the six furlongs in 1.09.02.
