Presidential and Complex Finals take shape

Email

With Saturday’s second round action for the Presidential and Complex events in the books, the stage is now set for the rich finals on January 28 at the Meadowlands.

The one to beat in the $110,500 Presidential final will certainly be Golden Receiver. The 7-year-old son of Village Jove went wire to wire in the second leg on Saturday, besting I Wanna Go Fast and River Shark under a mild drive in 1:49.2.

Golden Receiver is now perfect in three 2012 starts for trainer Mark Harder. He will likely head to the gate in the final as the 3-5 chalk while hoping to eclipse the $750,000 career earnings mark with a win.

The first division of the Presidential saw multi-millionaire Vintage Master overcome a first-over trip to post a sparkling 1:49.1 winning mile. The Jimmy Takter trainee, who will be making his final career start in the final before heading to the breeding shed, handed Annieswesterncard her third consecutive second-place finish in the race.

The $74,000 Complex final will also feature a heavy favorite in ITrustyou. The 4-year-old won his ninth straight by brushing to the lead early and never looking back.

Keep Going finished second and Freddy Day Hanover was third in the 1:51 mile.

The first Complex split on Saturday saw lots of early action and a wild finish resulting in Avenue Hanover getting his head up at the wire in 1:51. Joltin Colt was the tough luck loser in second, with Voice Of Truth a no-excuse third.
