Prescott reaches 2,000-win mark

Rodney Prescott notched the 2,000th victory of his riding career in last Wednesday's third race at Hoosier aboard Sefayoself. Prescott had the second-most wins in the nation in 2005 and earned riding titles at Indiana Downs, River Downs, and Hoosier Park. Prescott was leading rider again at River Downs this year, and through last weekend was second in the Hoosier standings, eight wins behind Tom Pompell.

* The best performance of the past week at Hoosier belonged to Stealth Flier, the winner of a conditioned $4,000 claimer in last Wednesday's sixth race. Stealth Flier drew off to win by 10 3/4 lengths, finishing in 1:03.65 for 5 1/2 furlongs. Stealth Flier earned a career-best 97 Beyer, 21 points higher than his previous best.

* The sixth annual Female Jockey Challenge will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, and the names of the 12 participants were announced this week. Tammi Piermarini, Jerri Nichols, Katie Lee, Jane Margrell, Janice Blake, Ashton Fitzpatrick, and Jordan Springer will join Hoosier-based riders Brinda Robbins, Liz Morris, Jaleina Farrell, Shelley Moran, and Julie Veltman in the contest.

* Less than a week after he finished fifth as the favorite in the Merrillville Stakes, Free Bonus will be back in action in Friday's featured 12th race, a $16,500 open money allowance. The likely favorite is Ashley and I, who was second in a high-end allowance earlier in the meet.
