Premeditation takes Alysheba at Lone Star

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Premeditation rallied up the rail to win the $100,000 Alysheba Breeders' Cup before a crowd of 28,123 Wednesday night at Lone Star Park. It was three lengths back in second to 30-1 longshot Padlock, who finished a neck clear of De Real Deal.

Matanzas Creek, the 4-5 favorite, raced wide throughout and finished fourth.

Premeditation ($16.40) raced several lengths behind De Real Deal, who dueled on the lead through an opening six furlongs in 1:09.40. Premeditation slipped through on the rail inside the furlong grounds, and was strong to the wire, covering seven furlongs for 3-year-olds over a track rated good in 1:23.06.

"There was a lot of horse there," said Casey Lambert, who rode Premeditation for trainer Bill Leach.

Premeditation earned $60,000 for the win. He has now won five of 11 career starts and earned $178,983 for owner Bill Clifton Jr.

A fireworks program followed the races Wednesday.
