Prather on the move again

AUBURN, Wash. - Kris Prather, the fourth-leading rider at Emerald Downs through Sunday's 28th day of racing at the 91-day meet, will shift her tack to Churchill Downs.

Prather, who rode 19 winners from 128 mounts at Emerald, said she was disappointed by both the number and the quality of her mounts there.

"People just didn't use me on their better horses here," she said. "I'm better off to go where people know me. It will be tough going to Churchill in the middle of the meet, but I still think I'll do better there than I'm doing here."

Riding at Turfway Park in 2001, Prather, 23, led the nation in wins with 110 through March 17, when she was injured in a starting gate mishap. When she returned, she tried Oaklawn Park and Mountaineer Park with little success before arriving at Emerald shortly before the meeting opened on April 19.

Prather said she will be represented at Churchill by agent Ron Mullis. She plans to ride at Ellis Park in Kentucky after the Churchill Downs meet ends on July 4.
