Prairie: Will E Scat tops Mile

Email

Iowa-bred Will E Scat takes on open company in a field of eight 3-year-olds in the $50,000 Prairie Mile at Prairie Meadows.

Will E Scat is the only stakes winner entered in the race by virtue of his three-quarter-length score against statebreds here May 29 in the $50,000 Gray's Lake. Trained by Kelly Von Hemel, Will E Scat's three wins are the most wins of any horse in the race. He has also finished second twice.

Will E Scat defeated open company in an allowance contest at Oaklawn in April. The only question he must answer is whether he can handle two turns - all of his starts have come at six furlongs. Cindy Noll, who has ridden Will E Scat in each of his starts, has a return call in the Mile for owner-breeder John Minarik.

Quiet Money returns from a 10-week layoff for trainer Nick Canani. A son of Seattle Slew, Quiet Money most recently finished sixth in the $500,000 WinStar Derby at Sunland Park on April 2. He has never won a stakes but did finish second in the the race's $100,000 Turf Paradise Derby in February.

Quiet Money has been stabled at Prairie for over a month and recorded a bullet five-furlong drill in 59.20 seconds May 28, signaling he is ready for Saturday's contest. Alex Birzer picks up the mount on Quiet Money in the Mile.
