Prairie: Slight nod to Kingsfield

Kingsfield rates a slight edge in a competitive field of seven 3-year-olds in the $50,000 Prairie Mile at Prairie Meadows.

Kingsfield is the only multiple stakes winner entered in the Prairie Mile and the only horse with a stakes win around two turns by virtue of his 5 1/2-length score in the $75,000 Sugar Bowl at Louisiana Downs on New Year's Day.

In his most recent start, Kingsfield rallied from last at the top of the stretch in a field of six to finish second, beaten a half-length, in the six-furlong Shecky Greene Handicap at Arlington on May 5.

Kingsfield is proven over this surface, having captured the Prairie Freshman Stakes last September. He was also an unlucky loser when finishing second, beaten a head, following a troubled trip in the six-furlong Golden Circle on April 22. Overall, Kingsfield has a mark of 3-4-1 from 10 starts, good for a field-topping $115,901 in earnings. Terry Thompson, who has ridden Kingsfield six times, picks up the mount.

Spotsgone is a gate-to-wire threat in the Mile for trainer Jinks Fires. In his most recent start, Spotsgone dueled for the lead throughout in the $100,000 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs, dropping a neck decision to Record in that one-turn mile.

Wild L, a winner of 3 of his 4 starts, including the $55,000 Gray's Lake last out May 28, tries two turns for the first time on Saturday. Wild L, an Iowa-bred son of Vicar, has come from off the pace in all three of his wins and may appreciate the added distance.
