Prairie: Pie's Lil Brother again

Defending champion Pie's Lil Brother ($41.80) made up six lengths in the final furlong and nailed 3-5 favorite Coach Jimi Lee in the last stride to score an upset victory in the $50,000 Prairie Express at Prairie Meadows.

Pie's Lil Brother, who was winless in seven starts since capturing this event last year, trailed in the eight-horse field on the turn in the 5 1/2-furlong Express. Coach Jimi Lee shook loose after an early duel and clocked a half-mile in 44.93 seconds.

Jockey Terry Thompson got Pie's Lil Brother in gear in time to run down the favorite while stopping the timer in 1:03.65 over the fast track. The victory was Pie's Lil Brother's eighth in 26 career starts. Stanley Roberts, who leads the standings here, trains Pie's Lil Brother.

Sand Ridge, who rallied in tandem with Pie's Lil Brother through the stretch, finished a half-length behind Coach Jimi Lee in third to complete a $332.20 trifecta.
