Prairie Meadows: Worldly dominates Prairie Meadows Handicap

ALTOONA, Iowa —In a solid exhibition of class and stamina, Worldly ($5.60) cruised home by four lengths to take the $100,000 Prairie Meadows Handicap on Saturday evening.

Shipped in from his Churchill Downs base by trainer Paul McGee, who was on hand to saddle his stable star, Worldly forced the pace of the Iowa-bred Kate's Main Man, edged away from that rival entering the stretch, and held his other five opponents at bay throughout the stretch in the 1 1/4-mile event. The meet's leading rider, Terry Thompson , rode the steadily improving 4-year old Worldly, a son of A.P. Indy.

Red Lead, trained locally by Chris Hartman, stayed on under jockey Phil Teator's steady pressure to hold second from the mild rally of Black Hills.

Stachys, who was sent off the slight 8-5 favorite, flattened out between horses in the stretch and finished fourth.

Worldly, a full brother to the millionaire Suave out of the multiple Grade 1 winning mare Urbane, earned $60,000 for his Jay Em Ess Stable and traveled the distance in 2:03.11.
