Prairie Meadows: 'Will' favored

Will E Scat heads a field of seven Iowa-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings entered in the $50,000-added Gray's Lake Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Will E Scat enters the six-furlong Gray's Lake off of a second-place finish against older second-level allowance rivals here May 12.

Before that race, Will E Scat, trained by Kelly Von Hemel, rallied to score a neck victory over allowance rivals at Oaklawn Park. Overall, Will E Scat has compiled a record of 2-2-0 from 5 starts, good for $40,620 in earnings for his owner-breeder, John Minarik.

Cindy Noll, who has ridden Will E Scat in all five of his starts, figures to put him into a stalking position early before rallying him through the stretch. The pair must avoid a slow break, something that Will E Scat has done in 3 of his 5 starts.

King Freddie looms the main danger for trainer Larry Jones. King Freddie survived a pace duel to score a three-quarter-length win over entry-level statebred allowance rivals here May 7.

Mingo Mohawk is the only stakes winner in the Gray's Lake by virtue of his 1 3/4-length score in last August's $65,000 Iowa Cradle here. Most recently, Mingo Mohawk rallied to finish fourth in the same allowance contest Will E Scat exits, with Will E Scat defeating him by a length.
