Prairie Meadows: 'Tricky' tries stakes

Tricky's Tick Tock goes for his first stakes win when he heads a field of nine, including two entries, in the $60,000-added Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

Trained by Larry Jones, Tricky's Tick Tock has not raced since he scored a gate-to-wire 4 1/4-length victory against maiden special weight company in his debut June 12 at Delaware Park. He earned a 65 Beyer Speed Figure, which tops the Futurity field.

Tricky's Tick Tock posted a bullet five-furlong work in 1:00.57 here Monday morning, signaling he is ready to return off the layoff. Tim Doocy will be in to ride Tricky's Tick Tock, who will be coupled in the wagering with the Jim Arnett-trained Ghazi Up as part of a River Ridge Ranch-owned entry.

C J Mingo, one of four maidens in the Futurity field, may be the main threat on Saturday. Trained by Dick Clark, the all-time leading trainer at Prairie Meadows, C J Mingo is winless in three starts but has rallied to finish on the board in each of those races. Most recently, C J Mingo rallied strongly through the stretch to finish third, beaten 1 1/4 lengths, in the $62,000 ITBOA Sales Futurity going 5 1/2 furlongs here July 15.

Glenn Corbett picks up the mount on C J Mingo, who figures to benefit from the added distance in the Futurity.
