Prairie Meadows: Shane Laviolette wins No. 2,000

ALTOONA, Iowa - Jockey Shane Laviolette, aboard A Wish for My Lady, achieved his 2,000th career win Friday evening at Prairie Meadows.

Laviolette guided A Wish for My Lady, the 4-5 favorite, to the front in a five-furlong maiden-claiming event for Iowa-bred fillies, and they were never challenged over a sloppy surface for an 8 1/4 length win.

Laviolette, a Louisiana native who began riding in 1991, is enjoying a fine meet here with 20 winners from 155 mounts, including stakes wins on Wings of War and Iowa Derby hopeful Our Double Play.

* Leading owner Maggi Moss said that her outstanding sprinter Delaunay is not a definite starter for the June 28 $125,000 Iowa Sprint Handicap and may instead run in Calder's Smile Sprint on July 6 because it's a Win and You're In race for Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Nominations for the Iowa Sprint and the other June 29-29 Iowa Festival of Racing events close Sunday.
