Sakakawea rolls home in Friday night's Mamie Eisenhower. Her jockey, Alex Birzer, had five wins on the card.

ALTOONA, Iowa - Sakakawea, exhibiting her controlling speed and proficiency in running around the turn at Prairie Meadows, took her third straight $70,000 Mamie Eisenhower Stakes on Saturday night over five Iowa-bred rivals.

Seizing command early on and extending her advantage to five lengths around the bend in the six-furlong event, the 6-year-old mare had enough left to resist the determined bid of Ginger Added to score by 1 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:11.35.

Owned by Sherri Tracy's Black Oak Farm, Sakakawea's victory was the third win of the evening for her husband, trainer Ray Tracy, and the fifth for jockey Alex Birzer. Although still in the early stages of a meet that runs through Aug. 11, Birzer's quintet of wins put him one in front of Terry Thompson in the rider standings with 25.

Thompson rode 3-5 favorite Someplace Else in the Mamie Eisenhower who, after chasing between rivals early, came up empty and finished fifth.

Sent off as the second choice, Sakakawea ($9.60) improved her record to 9 for 11 at Prairie Meadows and earned  $42,000.
