Prairie Meadows: No beating Biscuit

ALTOONA, Iowa - Two-time defending Iowa-bred horse of the year Sure Shot Biscuit looks to be a very short price when he heads six other statebred colts and geldings in the six-furlong, $60,000 John Wayne stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Sure Shot Biscuit enters the John Wayne off three straight victories, including a half-length score against open company in the $75,000 Precisionist Handicap here on May 26 in his most recent start.

Overall Sure Shot Biscuit, a 5-year-old gelded son of Miracle Heights, has a record of 19-3-4 from 32 career starts for trainer Kelly Von Hemel. He has earned more than $715,000 for the Okoboji Racing Stable, making him the richest Iowa-bred ever.

Regular rider Terry Thompson has the call aboard Sure Shot Biscuit on Saturday at 122 pounds.

Reuben and Elvis Rocks are both in good form and could win the John Wayne if the favorite falters, but if Sure Shot Biscuit runs his race they will likely be competing for second money.
