Prairie Meadows: A Little Edgy scores first career win in Iowa Legacy Stallion Stakes
Email
ALTOONA, Iowa- A Little Edgy made his first lifetime win a special one as the Iowa-bred 3-year- old found his best stride in the slop to take the $56,665 Iowa Legacy Stallion Stakes by a half- length Saturday night at Prairie Meadows.
Trained by co-breeder Dave McShane, the confirmed closer A Little Edgy, under an astute ride from Ken Tohill, swept past You Funny Man, favored Avalanche Pass, and Gray Edge in the final eighth of the six-furlong race. You Funny Man, who lacked room at a crucial stage inside the furlong marker, was angled in by jockey David Mello and kept on to capture second. Avalanche Pass, who led into the stretch, held on for third place.
Sent off as the fourth choice in the field of seven, A Little Edgy returned $20.60 to his backers. Covering the six furlongs over the rain-soaked, sealed surface in 1:11.86, he earned $34,398.
Best Bets
MYSTICAL TERP really ran well in his local debut last time out, closing nicely for the show despite having to deal with a bias that favored speed on the rail as well as a lack of pace in the race; this one promises to set up much better for him, as there's confirmed speed to the outside, and if he's able to stay a little closer in the opening stages he can be expected to make the last run today.
